Welcome to the game guys! Naming rules are as follows:
First name: Related to "light"
Middle name: From a famous novel
Each couple has been presented with an infant (or two) and situations involving the birth or homecoming. I, essentially, play the children and the circumstances, and you must reply with the parents' response. Have fun and write as much as you'd like!
Jenna & Matt
An emergency C-section was required to bring this little boy into being. It was all a blurr, frantic doctors gathering around mom, whispering secret worries, all until a tiny boy was born, skin almost as blue as his eyes. His limp body was whisked away for resuscitation -- the reflection of his struggle seen in his parents tears. The doctors worked with him for over 25 minutes, attempting to restore the boy's frail heartbeat, until a small whimper could finally be heard. It was the sound of hope, and the most important sound in the world right now. A unanimous sigh of relief could be heard from everyone in the room. He was okay. He was going to live.
After much care, the infant slowly regained health. His grayish skin began to turn bright pink, and his eyes, once glazed over, returned with a strong glimmer of life. He looked at his mother for the first time, and, while in her arms, knew he would be safe from now on.
Elizabeth & Alexander
Tiny but perfect, these two identical little girls were an unexpected surprise. It was difficult to imagine life's current situation with just one more mouth to feed, and all of sudden, there are two. Two tiny, helpless little creatures that mom and dad can't help but be terrified of. They are so beautiful and fragile-- with daddy's dark hair and eyes, and mommy's light tender skin. They share the sweetest little cherry lips, and have long slender fingers. Immediately upon being cut from the womb, the first girl cries, and it is soon realized that with the birth, her grip from her twin sister had been broken. Before birth, they had been holding hands, and now the firstborn is reaching out, fingers spread, towards a tiny hand emerging from the womb that so desperately reaches back. The second infant is then pulled from the womb and placed together with her sister. They are wrapped up in matching pink blankets and shown briefly to their mother and father, before being whisked away to be cleaned. Mom and dad are overjoyed, but also struck with an unwavering feeling of absolute fear. They are afraid for themselves, and for these tiny new lives that they are now responsible for.
Amelia & Jon
With a broken smile, the child looks up. His eyes are timid and scared; He has not yet learned to trust. His movements are carefully calculated and gentle-- any "wrong" actions and there would be severe punishment, or at least that is what he had been accustomed to. Black and blue stripes the little boy's tiny body, and there is a severe burn on the back of his hand. Scars, both physical and emotional, are left to haunt him from a past with an abusive mother. The child is not easily comforted, but he does not dare cry unless it is in pure silence, allowing the tears to well up in his eyes and sting, before finally trembling down crimson cheeks. His experience has made him wise beyond his years, and the toddler has learned to fend for himself. At the tender age of eighteen months, barely past infancy, he has been exposed to much of the world's evil and learned to, essentially, withdraw. There could be no more trust. How could he begin to love again if the one person he loved had treated him with such coldness?
His adjusting to his new foster home was difficult.
For the first few days he would not eat what was given to him. Instead, he would be found digging through scraps in the trash can, eating bits of leftover cereal or bread. He would also not speak; He simply stared, honey-tinted eyes trembling in fear. He could walk with ease, although his little legs were bowed and turned slightly inward, so he waddled more than he walked. Overall he was extremely quiet, to the point where it seemed impossible for any outsiders to imagine there was an actual toddler living inside that house. The only time he screamed was when he was put for a bath. His eyes would grow as big as saucers and he would shriek and thrash until he was out of the water. He did not have fond memories of water.
For a while the little boy was distressed, anxious. "Ma-ma" He would whimper, lower lip quivering. And it was strange too, everyone thought, that the child would ask for his biological mother, the one who had abused him so severely. But in hindsight, she was truly the only person he had ever had. She was the only "love" he had known for all of his life. So that is what he held on to.
Lauren & Ryan
Emerging gently after a long but natural labor, a little girl is born, entering the world with a scream. Her cupid's bow lips are pursed into a tiny, indignant pout, as if to say "How dare you remove me from my warm and cozy haven!" Big blue eyes look around, watery and shimmering, seeking comfort. Upon being placed in her mother's arms, she calms down, a single tear rolling down her pink cheek. She has soft, downy brown hair, and the healthy redness of her skin makes her look like a tiny rosebud. She looks at her daddy for the first time, and then, with a little yawn, falls asleep.
Samantha & Hayden
A newborn child, always a gift. And yet, some people are unsatisfied with their own children. Sometimes, a child is simply not "perfect" enough in his or her own parents' eyes, and is given away. That was, sadly, the case of this tiny angel, born with down syndrome and then immediately put up for foster care. For two months, she was passed around from foster home to foster home, no one wanting the burden of a special needs child.
It was a rough start to her little life, but one day finally came when she found a light. A family. Two moms not only willing to take her in as their own, but happy to do so. The first time the infant's eyes locked with her new parents, it was clear; She was pleading. Please love me. I know I am different, but please, please love me.
And that is how it began. She was a sweet, smiley baby, with soft blonde hair and happy blue eyes. A quiet and content little thing, she was hardly a difficult child to care for. She enjoyed being around others and would smile with ease, happy in her new life. Happy she found home.
Samantha & Milo
After a quick and nearly painless birth at the hospital, a wide-eyed little boy with a curious expression is born into the world. He was planned for and long anticipated. He does not cry at all upon entrance, but instead chooses to observe, quietly, the new stimuli that surrounds him. He now can smell, touch, feel and see things that he had never experienced before, and he is in quiet awe. His light blue eyes are endless, and he has a tuft of dark brown hair on his little head. squinting in an effort to see his world better, his gaze bounces from person to person around him. He is cleaned, gently but permanently removing what remained of his life in the womb. As he is wrapped up in a little white blanket, he sees his mother for the first time, and although the image is blurry and lacking color, he immediately knows it's her.
Gemma & Rafferty
With a quiet entrance, the little girl emerges gracefully into the world. Her blue eyes are wide and she has a beautiful cap of downy red hair. She is perfect, but tiny, born at 32 weeks gestation and just a little over 4 pounds. The infant is briefly shown to her parents before being taken away for monitoring. She looks dainty and peaceful in her incubator, but also very fragile, as if made out of glass. This will be her home for the next two and a half weeks.
For most days she sleeps, crying only out of hunger or when the nurses need to prick her paper-like skin. When her parents come to visit her, she opens her eyes with her mom's touch, wrapping her tiny hand around the woman's finger.
Hayley & Preston
Like a little fish, the tiny girl sprang up from the water, born into her mother's arms, eyes wide open in a pretty shade of hazel. She immediately cried, hands clenched into tiny fists, before being wrapped burrito-style in a soft white blanket. A pink cap was placed on her head, and the baby girl settled down, enjoying mama's cuddle. She sniffed, eyes shiny with the residue of tears, and immediately began rooting in an attempt to nurse.
Nikki & Zachary
The sound of ambulance sirens became louder and louder. Within seconds, two medics, a male and a female, were at the front door of the house, mouths gaping. Too late. In front of them they saw a mother holding her newly born son, umbillical cord still attached. The little tyke had arrived three weeks early, but perfectly healthy. He had a headful of fluffy dark hair and green-blue eyes that looked up with an impish glimmer. I'm here!
